FROM:CMAC | 2025-08-07

On July 11, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) released the first batch of six typical mediation cases involving foreign-related commercial and maritime disputes. The six cases summarize the experiences of courts at various levels in applying diversified dispute resolution methods in handling foreign-related commercial and maritime adjudication in recent years, forming a new paradigm of international commercial mediation, and demonstrating the core values of "mutual trust, win-win result, harmony and mutual assistance" where traditional Chinese culture intertwines with modern legal rules.

On August 7, the SPC released the second batch of six typical cases involving foreign-related commercial and maritime mediation. The six cases demonstrate Chinese courts' commitment to meeting the requirements of times to serve and safeguard high-level opening up, proactively promote the efficient, harmonious, and substantive resolution of foreign-related commercial and maritime disputes, and create a strong momentum for the rule of law to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the high-quality development of the marine economy.

In recent years, Chinese courts have consistently improved the quality and efficiency of foreign-related commercial and maritime adjudication, and have successfully resolved a great number of significant and complex cross-border commercial and maritime disputes through mediation, effectively protecting the legitimate rights and interests of domestic and international parties, which allows the  “oriental experience- the Chinese traditional concepts of "Harmonious Coexistence and Mutual Appreciation" - to travel across the oceans, gradually establishing China as a preferred destination for international commercial and maritime dispute resolution.
