Meeting on Promoting Pilot Program for International Commercial Arbitration Centers Held in Shanghai
On April 9, the Ministry of Justice held a meeting in Shanghai on promoting the pilot program for construction of international commercial arbitration centers, reviewing the progress made by the pilot regions in advancing the program and making arrangements for the next steps in the program..
In July 2022, the Commission for Law-based Governance under the CPC Central Committee launched the pilot program to construct international commercial arbitration centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hainan. The aim is to support these pilot areas in building highly credible and internationally influential international commercial arbitration centers, creating a number of world-class arbitration institutions, and improving the level of international commercial dispute resolution services.
According to the data, in 2023, the eight arbitration institutions in the pilot areas handled a total of 79,000 cases with a total amount in dispute of 600 billion yuan, accounting for 52% of the national total. They concluded 2,251 foreign-related cases, accounting for 72% of the national total, with a foreign-related amount in dispute of 137.6 billion yuan, accounting for 69% of the national total.
