On May 6, the 26th International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Congress commenced its three-day agenda at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. On the same day, The Second Edition of ICCA’s Guide to the Interpretation of the 1958 New York Convention (the Guide) was released.

The international community signed the New York Convention (the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards) in 1958, an international document that regulates the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. To assist judges in the contracting states in applying and interpreting the convention, ICCA published the first edition of the Guide in 2011. The newly released second edition of the Guide has been adjusted in light of new trends and changes in international trade to better guide international commercial arbitration practices.

On the same day, Stanimir Alexandrov, Chairman of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration, stated that this congress brings together global legal professionals to jointly examine the human elements in international arbitration. He expressed hope that all parties will work together to anticipate future trends and find effective ways to address related challenges, thereby promoting the continuous adaptation of international arbitration to the development of modern society.
