CMAC delegation visits Singapore and Malaysia and attended Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference 2023

From October 16 to 20,2023, Dr. Li Hu, Vice Chairman of CMAC led the delegation to visit Singapore and Malaysia and attended Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference 2023.

On October 17,2023, Dr. Li Hu and the delegation of CMAC visited Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR) and The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM). They had in-depth discussions on the current situation of the international supply chain, the development of the China-Malaysia arbitration system, mutual learning of arbitration rules, deepening arbitration cooperation, and jointly promoting the development of regional arbitration. 

From October 16 to 20, Dr. Li Hu and the delegation of CMAC also visited COSCO Shipping Lines (Malaysia) Co., LTD. ,General Chamber of Commerce of Chinese Enterprises in Malaysia, Malaysia International Mediation Center (MIMC), Malaysia-China Business Council and other institutions, they held in-depth discussions on how Chinese enterprises can more effectively prevent and resolve relevant legal risks in the process of "going out", the construction, development and maintenance of international supply chains, the mediation system between China and Malaysia, institutional mediation rules and procedures, the combination of mediation and arbitration of China and Malaysia, the development of arbitration legal services in the Asia-Pacific region, and the role of arbitration in international trade and investment and other issues.

On October 20, Dr. Li Hu and the delegation of CMAC attended Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference 2023 in Singapore. The conference is jointly organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Singapore Ministry of Law and the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO). Dr. YU Jianlong, Vice Chairman of CCPIT and Mr. Edwin Tong SC, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law attended and addressed the conference. Dr. Yu Jianlong introduced the development of maritime commercial arbitration in China, reviewed the history of co-operation and exchanges in arbitration between Singapore and China, and put forward practical suggestions for further co-operation. Dr. Li Hu, Vice Chairman of CMAC, was invited to participate in the seminar on topic II of the conference, he introduced the latest development of maritime arbitration in China, the innovative measures of CMAC maritime arbitration procedural management. He exchanged views on the application for arrest of a ship in China, and the application of “The United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships” (the "Beijing Convention") in China and other issues.

Dr. Li Hu, on behalf of the Chinese side, addressed the closing ceremony. He said that promoting the organic and coordinated development of dispute prevention, mediation, arbitration and litigation will help properly resolve cross-border infrastructure disputes. The diversity of maritime disputes requires the diversity of dispute resolution methods, and the diversity of dispute resolution calls for international cooperation. It is necessary to give full play to the energy efficiency brought about by the integration of advantages of multiple dispute resolution methods, promote the continuous optimization and development of multiple dispute resolution methods, and provide more flexible legal path choices for commercial dispute resolution for Chinese and foreign parties.

During the visit to Singapore, Dr. Li Hu and his delegation joined the delegation of CCPIT, participated in a symposium well attended by Chinese Enterprises and the promotion of the first China International Supply Chain Expo, visited Singapore International Mediation Center (SIMC) and Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC), visited Maxwell Chambers, met with relevant business associations and enterprises. The delegation actively promoted the first China International Supply Chain Expo and China's maritime arbitration services, and received positive responses from foreign parties.
